Water Damage Do’s:
- Remove as much excess water as possible by mopping ceramic or vinyl floors. Wipe as much excess water as possible from wood furniture after removal of lamps and table-top items.
- Remove and prop up wet upholstery cushions for even drying (check for bleeding of colour)
- Place aluminium foil, or plastic bags between furniture legs and wet carpeting
- Remove oriental rugs or other coloured rugs from wet carpeting
- Open drawers and cabinet doors for complete drying (Do not force open)
- Remove valuable paintings and art objects to a safe place
- Open suitcases and luggage to dry, in sunlight if possible
- Punch small holes in sagging ceilings to relieve trapped water (Don’t forget to place pans underneath) If possible, keep out of rooms where ceilings are sagging
- Vacate the areas affected by sewage backflows
Water Damage Do Not’s:
- Leave wet fabrics in place; dry as soon as possible
- Leave books, magazines or other coloured items on wet carpets or floors
- Use your household vacuum to remove water
- Use TV’s or other appliances while standing on wet carpets or floors, especially not on wet concrete floors
- Turn on ceiling fixtures if ceiling is wet
- Put newspaper or coloured towels on the carpet
- Attempt to cut carpet seams or lift carpet
